I needed a break and so the relative silence between posts... For the past 4 years, many and yes, too many, of my daily thoughts were connected to something that profoundly worried and/or outraged me. My habit has been to start my day looking at all that happened @ “home base” in time zones and miles away. From Twitter to the NYT, WSJ, WAPO and beyond…news about “the former guy”, reading the tweets and deeds started the adrenaline flow, accelerated my heartbeat and sometimes put the taste of metal in my mouth. The Industry of Outrage had another customer and I was eager to sign up for more servings. With my daily portion came an energy rush that made me feel empowered, all served up with a satisfying dash of self righteousness. I knew that there was an accompanying danger, side effects, that came with these feelings…that I was maybe becoming a version of what “the other side” so disdained and held in contempt and that at least a little bit of me agreed with… but hey so what…They were wrong and I was right.
It has certainly been a relief to have those 4 years be over. On the other hand, you’re right to imply that a certain void has been created. Time spent being angry, upset and/or righteous is now available for other activities. What will they be? Our opportunity to choose wisely is upon us. ❤️
As always so concisely and eloquently stated. I'm off cable news, reading more books I enjoy and listening to music while I work from home. My credo as always is CKTL. Be Compassionate, send out Kindmess, be Tolerant and always try to choose Love over hate. PEACE
Very well said Peter! I think we all had to go through the ptsd period & there will still be “the clown car” to provoke in us the outrage that has become all too familiar these last 8 years but I’m with you. It’s time to look forward & join all that’s positive. It will take a global effort to work through the many issues we are confronting but better to go into that minus the anger. Here’s to a new beginning of hope, positivity & compassion. And how about normalcy? The Bidens are reminding us what that looks like. Sometimes it’s as simple as having coffee & playing with your dogs on the White House lawn :)
The next outrage...
