lovely note Peter! I may be the only American who never took a Spanish class !!! However, I was fairly fluent in French at one early point in my life and took italian at U of Michigan cuz I thought it was a beautiful language!! Turns out I ended up in Europe for ABC Sports sometimes 3 x a month covering events. Only worked in France a few times but ended up with great friends in Rome and Switzerland and UK...Only worked in Spain once - and yes, in Barcelona. 10 days off season doing a figure skating event in December 1991. I shot some of the most interesting ENG for our shows and loved the city. However, my purse with every piece of ID and money was stolen from our van on top of Mont Juic as we were filming a sunset. Spent the next two days at the police station and getting a new passport etc. As beautiful and culturally interesting the city was - I found the Catalans very unhelpful. I have never been back to Spain but would love to visit Madrid at your suggestion. I have been to Portugal many times as I had a great pal living in the Algarve in the fishing village of Olhao - totally untouched by tourism - about 10 kilometers east of Faro. Loved it there . Have also been to Lisbon . Was supposed to go to Porto last year.

Hopefully this pandemic will pass and I will be able to visit Madrid - and hopefully you all will be there to guide me!! Things in NYC are going better - city coming back to life. have had 2 vaccinations - Pfizer....renewed my global entry....ready to roll!!!
