The biggest reasons I started writing these posts is to give friends and family a sense of what life is like on this side of the world during this extraordinary time as well as provide a different US “outsider” perspective as a keenly interested and tax paying observer of all things USA.
Interesting perspective from across the pond. While I certainly agree with him, I wonder how much push back you get from our Republican classmates on LI. This post has reminded me of how little news coverage there is lately about Europe, and other parts of the world. Our current news cycle is “all things Trump” and lots of weather. Funny how you often don’t notice what’s missing until you need it. Like democracy.
It's funny when we were in HS believe it or not I was a Goldwater Republican and I was swimming against the tide and of course now the tide and I have turned. There are myriad reasons why but the fact is most of our contemporaries are right of center and I'm afraid along with that comes fear and resistance to change especially as represented by "the other". It was true of our parents generation and in the main of ours as well. Thankfully, there are exceptions and I'm hoping the starkness of the horror of this particular "known" will mitigate the fear of the alternative...but I'm not counting on it.
